Our Core Values
Our Core Values + Our Culture = Our LibAbun Brand
As we grow as a defined LibAbun team, it is increasingly important to explicitly define our core values from which we develop our culture, our brand and our business strategies. As our business team grows in the number of LibAbun Business Angels, Coaches, Trainers and Support Team and these people grow personally and professionally, we want to make sure that everyone is on the same page, acting consistently and creating the ‘synergies’ toward what we want our LibAbun team, culture, and brand to be all about.
Over time, we will be restructuring LibAbun performance reviews so that a big part of every Team members performance is based on how well he or she represents and makes decisions based on our core values to help them strike a win/win balance of achieving their goals whilst fully representing the LibAbun brand.
While there are many sub-components to each value. We’ve distilled the most important themes into the following 12 core values
- A mantra of Service – Deliver WOW through service and results.
- It Must be Good for You, Good for Others and Good for the Greater Good
- Be a ‘change agent’ for continual improvement
- Always do the right thing
- Be a creator of Fun
- Be Adventurous, creative and open-minded
- Pursue Learning and Growth
- Build Open and Honest Relationships with Communication
- Build a Positive Team and Family Spirit
- Seek to Leverage Yourself and Do More with Less
- Be Passionate and Determined
- Be Humble, yet Recognise and Celebrate Success
Ideally we want all 12 Core Values to be reflected in everything we do, including how we interact with each other, how we interact with our customers and prospects, and how we interact with our vendors, business partners and wider community. There is plenty of work that lies ahead and we will need to constantly be aware of reflecting and applying our 12 core values in how we think, how we act, and how we communicate.
Developing the ‘4-C’s to be ‘Liberators of Abundance’
Since our humble beginnings, LibAbun has been an Abundance-obsessed company that focuses on delivering a WOW experience. We aim to inspire the world by showing it’s possible to simultaneously deliver happiness to customers, as well as employees, vendors, shareholders and the community, in a long-term, sustainable way. That is what ‘Abundance’ means to us.
This vision led LibAbun to deliver abundance through the four C’s: Commerce, Customer Service, Company Culture, Community.
As LibAbun continues to transform and scale, we want to ensure the four C’s remain top of mind in our day-to-day business operations. This means offering Businesses more business support options and variety, reimagining ways to exceed customer expectations, protecting and growing our company culture and serving communities near and far.
As we grow our processes and strategies may change yet, we want our culture and core values to always remain the same. Our core values and points of culture should always be the framework from which we make all our decisions.
We encourage everyone to re-examine everything that is being done within LibAbun and ask yourself what changes can I or we make to better reflect our culture and core values. So the challenge to everyone is this;
‘Make at least 1 change every week that makes our LibAbun Team better reflect our culture and core values’!
Each improvement doesn’t have to be dramatic; it could be simply adding a joke to your events or placing a humorous note on your forms. If every member of our LibAbun team made just one small improvement each week to better reflect our culture and core values, then within a year that collectively will be a very dramatic improvement to where we are today.
1. A Mantra of Service – Deliver ‘WOW’ through service and results.
At LibAbun anything worth doing is worth doing with WOW. WOW is such a short, simple word, but it really encompasses many things. To WOW, you must differentiate yourself, which means do something unconventional and innovative. You must do something that is above and beyond what is expected. Whatever you do, it must have an emotional affect upon the receiver. We are not an average company, our service and results is not average, and we don’t want our people to be average. We expect every LibAbun team member to deliver WOW.
Whether internally within our LibAbun team or externally with customers and partners, delivering WOW results in people promoting us through word of mouth. Our Philosophy within LibAbun has to be to WOW with service and results, not with anything that relates directly to monetary compensation (for example, we don’t offer blanket discounts to customers).
We seek to WOW our customers, our LibAbun colleagues, our suppliers, our partners, our community and in the long run, our investors.
Ask yourself; “What things can you improve upon in your work or attitude to WOW more people? Have you WOWed at least one person today?”
2. It Must be Good for You, Good for Others and Good for the Greater Good.
Everything we do must be good for you, good for others and good for the greater good. That is what we define ‘A win-win-win situation’. We will only conduct activities when we can say, “Yes” to all 3 of these areas. If we are aware or uncertain if whatever we consider doing may not be Good for yourself, others and the greater good, then we will find a better way. This is a simple test we will always do before making decisions to act.
Ask yourself; “Is what I am considering doing good for me, good for others and good for the greater good? Can I make the benefits any greater?
3. Be a ‘Change Agent’ for continual improvement.
Part of our growth and evolution is that change is constant. For some people, constant change can be unsettling at first, yet we need to accept constant change, embrace change and become a ‘Change Agent,’ so we control and shape change rather than have change shape us as an organisation. We must always plan for and be prepared for constant change.
Although change can and will come from all directions, its important that we nurture and encourage most of the changes in our LibAbun business that are driven from the people who are on the front-lines, closer to the customers and issues. Never accept or be too comfortable with the status quo, because the organisations that get into trouble are historically the ones that aren’t able to adapt to change and respond quickly enough.
We are ever evolving. If we want to continue as a business medium to long term, we must continue to evolve. Others can copy our images, our websites, our videos and even some of our presentations, but they cannot copy our people, our culture, our service and the results we get.
Ask yourself; “How do I plan and prepare for change? Do I view new challenges optimistically? Do I encourage and drive change? How do I encourage more change to be driven from my LibAbun colleagues? Am I empowering my direct reports and KPIs to drive change?
4. Always Do the Right Thing.
Trust your instincts whether you are doing the right thing. Only do things that you would be happy people doing to you. Does what you are considering doing fit inside the other core values in this list? Be honest and act with absolute Integrity.
Ask Yourself: “ Does this feel right? Am I doing the right thing for me, others and the LibAbun Brand? Is this a win-win-win situation?
5. Be a creator of FUN.
One of the things that makes LibAbun different from many other companies is that we value, recognise and are prepared to have fun to create a stimulating and inspiring environment that people want to be in. We want to be able to create fun and laugh at ourselves. We look for both fun and humour in our daily work. This means many things we do might and should be a little unconventional to create more fun.
We want our LibAbun team to have a unique and memorable personality. Our LibAbun culture is what makes us successful and through our culture we celebrate and embrace our diversity and each person’s individuality. We want people to express their personality in their work as we believe we achieve and function best when we can be ourselves.
One of the side effects of encouraging us all to be creators of fun and humour is that it stimulates people to think, ‘outside of the conventional box’ and be more innovative. Having fun at work is also the easiest way to create a win/win/win in business for everyone. When we are having fun all stakeholders are more engaged in what we do and LibAbun as a whole becomes more innovative.
Ask yourself; “What can we do to have more fun and differentiate ourselves from everyone else? How much fun do I have in my business and what can I do to make it more fun for myself, my clients, my suppliers and my LibAbun colleagues?”
6. Be Adventurous, Creative and Open Minded.
Within LibAbun it’s important for people and our team to be bold and daring (but not reckless). We want everyone to be prepared to take risks and make mistakes. If you aren’t making mistakes, then you are not taking enough risks. We never want to become complacent and accept the ‘status quo’ just because that’s the way things have always been done. We should always be seeking new ideas, adventure and having fun exploring new possibilities. We approach situations and challenges with an open-mind and we measure and test the results to make informed decisions.
Our sense of adventure and creativity should allow us to be unconventional and innovative in our solutions and that is what allows us to rise above and stay ahead of any challenges.
Ask yourself; “Am I taking enough risks? Am I afraid of making mistakes? Do I push myself outside of my comfort zone? Is there a sense of adventure and creativity in the work I do? What are some creative things I can contribute to in LibAbun? Do I approach situations and challenges with an open mind?”
7. Pursue Growth and Learning.
At LibAbun, we think it is important for our team to grow both personally and professionally. We believe that inside every person is more potential than one realises. Our goal is to help every person unlock that potential yet, this has to be a joint effort; you have to want to challenge, stretch and grow yourself for it to happen.
If you have been in LibAbun more than a few months, one thing is clear, we are always changing, growing and learning. It’s an endless cycle and it’s a good thing. It can also feel risky, stressful and confusing.
Sometimes it may feel as though new challenges pop up as fast as we solve old ones, that just means we are moving, getting better and stronger. Anyone who wants to compete with us has to learn the same things, so challenges are just ‘markers’ of our progress.
No matter how much better we get, we’ll always have more to do, we’ll never be done and we’ll never get it right. That may sound negative…it’s not; we’ll do our best to get it right and then do it again when things have changed. That is the cycle of growth and like it or not, the cycle won’t stop! We are becoming Experts as we do this.
Ask yourself; “What is my vision for where I want to go? How do I grow personally and professionally? Am I doing everything I can to promote growth in LibAbun and at the same time am I helping others understand the growth? Do I understand our LibAbun Vision?
8. Build Open and Honest Relationships with Communication.
Fundamentally, we believe that openness and honesty make for the best relationships because that leads to trust and faith. We value strong relationships in all areas; with customers (internal and external), suppliers, strategic partners, team members and your employees.
Strong, positive relationships that are open and honest are a big part of what ‘Differentiates’ LibAbun from most companies. Strong relationships allow us to accomplish much more than we would be able to do otherwise. A key ingredient in strong relationships is to develop emotional connections. Its important to always act with integrity in your relationships, to be compassionate, friendly, loyal and to make sure that you do the right thing and treat your relationships well. The hardest thing to do is to build trust, but when the trust exists you can do so much more.
In any relationship, its important to be a good listener as well as a good communicator. Open, honest communication is the best foundation for any relationship, but remember that at the end of the day, its not what you say or what you do, but how you make people feel that matters the most. In order for someone to feel good about a relationship, they must know that the other person truly cares about them, both personally and professionally.
At LibAbun we embrace diversity in thoughts, opinions, and backgrounds. The more widespread and diverse your relationships are, the bigger the positive affect you can make on your and the LibAbun Brand. It is critical for relationship-building to have effective, open, and honest communication.
As our LibAbun Team grows, communication becomes increasingly important, because everyone needs to understand how his or her team connects to the big picture of building our LibAbun Brand.
Ask yourself; “How much do people enjoy working with me? How can I improve my relationships? What new relationships can I build throughout our regional team beyond just my day to day co-workers? How do ‘I’ WOW the people I have relationships with? How can I make my relationships more open and honest? How can I do a better job of communicating with everyone?”
9. Build a Positive Team and Family Spirit.
Within LibAbun we place much emphasis on our culture because we are both a team and a family. We want to create an environment that is friendly, warm, exciting and inspiring. Our leaders lead by example and are both team followers as well as team leaders. We believe that generally the best ideas and decisions are made by those on the ‘front lines’ that are closest to the issues or our customers. The role of leaders is to remove obstacles to enable the team to succeed. This means our leaders are servant-leaders. They serve those they lead.
Our LibAbun team members take ownership and show initiative when they notice challenges or opportunities so that we as a team can succeed. Our team members also collaborate with other team members to create synergies whenever challenges arise to more easily overcome these challenges and grasp opportunities.
Our team members have a positive influence on one another and everyone they meet. We strive to eliminate any kind of cynicism and negative interactions through our culture of abundance. Our team members strive to build trust and create harmony with each other and whoever else they interact with.
We believe that the best teams are those that not only work with each other, but also interact with each other outside the office environment. Many of our best innovations have been ‘spawned’ through a direct result of interactions outside of the work environment.
We are more than just a team, we are a family. We watch out for each other, care for each other and go above and beyond for each other and trust each other. We work together and play together.
Ask yourself; “How do I encourage more teamwork? How do I encourage more people to take initiative? How do I encourage more people to take ownership? What can I do with my team members so that I feel like both a family and a team? How can I build stronger relationships with my team members both inside and outside the office? Do I exemplify a positive team spirit?
10. Seek to Leverage Yourself and Do More With Less.
LibAbun has always been about doing more with less this is part of our Abundant culture. While we may be casual in our interactions with each other, we are totally focused and serious about the operations of our business. We believe in hard work and putting in the extra effort to get things done.
We believe in operational excellence and accept there is always room for improvement in everything we do. This means our work is never done. We accept that businesses are either growing or dying as an entity, so we need to continuously innovate as well as make incremental improvements to our operations, always striving to make ourselves more efficient. We also use mistakes as learning opportunities.
We must never lose our sense of urgency in making improvements. We must never settle for ‘Good enough’ because good is the enemy of great, and our goal is to build our position as ‘The World’s Best Business Angel and Coaching Team’
Ask yourself; “How can I do what I am doing more efficiently? How can our team become more efficient? How can I personally help the team become more efficient?”
11. Be Passionate and Determined.
Passion is the fuel that drives ourselves and LibAbun forward. We value passion, determination, perseverance, a sense of urgency and people having the ‘intestinal fortitude’ to do what needs to be done. We are inspired and inspiring because we believe in what we are doing and where we are going. We don’t take ‘No’ or ‘that’ll never work’ or ‘I want to think about it’ for an answer, because if we did, we and LibAbun would not be where it is today.
Passion and determination are contagious. We believe in having a positive and optimistic (but realistic) attitude about everything we do, because we realise that this inspires others to have the same attitude.
There is excitement in knowing that everyone you work with has a tremendous impact on a larger dream and vision. It is inspiring being part of an organisation that changes peoples lives day in and day out. We achieve this by being passionate and determined.
Ask yourself; “Am I passionate about what I do as a LibAbun Team member? Am I passionate about LibAbun? Am I passionate about my work? Do I love what I do and who I work with? Am ‘I’ Inspired? Am I inspiring? Do I believe in what we are doing and where we are going? Is this the place for me?”
12. Be Humble, yet Recognise and Celebrate Success.
Within LibAbun we are able to grow our Business very quickly and to grow our clients businesses very quickly. We recognise there are always challenges ahead to tackle. We believe no matter what happens we should always be respectful to everyone.
While we recognise and celebrate our individual, team and clients successes, we are not arrogant nor do we treat others differently from how we would want to be treated. Instead, we carry ourselves with quiet confidence, because we believe that in the long run our character and culture will speak for itself.
Ask yourself; “Am I humble when talking about accomplishments? Am I humble when talking about LibAbun’s accomplishments? Do I treat both large and small business owners and their team members with the same amount of respect they treat you?
